Electric Fence Prices per Metre and Installation Costs
Prices start from R105.00 per meter for 6 line wall top up to R165.00/m for 12 line. Free-standing 18 line start from R215.00/m up to R315.00 for 30 lines.
Standard fence rates include hardware and labour. The energiser, its installation and accessories are quoted separately.

Six-line wall-top fence

Compare electric fence prices per metre
Taller fences and extra wires usually need more materials. Longer runs may qualify for a lower price per metre. However, the total cost usually rises as the fence gets longer.

Is your freestanding fence 100–199 m long? This length band has no published rate. Ask us to confirm the price for your property. All fence rates above include standard hardware and installation labour, but exclude the energiser.

Overall distance estimate guideline is approximately R8,500 for a 50 m six-line fence and R14,800 for a 100 m installation.
The full inclusions are not specified for these examples. Therefore, use them as budget guides and request a quote that lists each item.

What affects the final installation cost?
Every boundary is different. For that reason, we assess the site before confirming the total price.
Fence length
A longer fence needs more materials and labour, even when its price per metre is lower.
Height and number of lines
Taller fences and extra wires need more supports and fittings.
Material choice
The wire, brackets, insulators and fittings affect durability and future maintenance.
Ground and walls
Rocky ground, high or stepped walls and difficult access may add work.
Clearing and corners
Vegetation and an uneven boundary can change the fence route and support needs.
Zones and controls
Extra zones, gate connections and monitoring features can increase equipment costs.
Choose a fence layout for your property
Wall-top fencing
Fits above a suitable existing wall. Brackets and the number of wires are chosen to suit the site.
Piggyback fencing
Adds electric wires to suitable palisade or other existing fencing. Ask for a quote for this layout.
Freestanding fencing
Uses a separate fence structure where there is no suitable wall. Options include larger commercial sites, farms and animal-control layouts.
Before installation begins
First, the installer checks the fence route, corners and support positions. They also assess wire tension, earthing and the energiser location.
Post spacing and other details must suit the actual fence and applicable requirements. Therefore, general spacing examples should not be used as instructions for every site.

How much does electric fencing cost per metre?
Wall-top rates in our tables range from R95 to R165 per metre. Freestanding rates range from R205 to R315 per metre. Your rate depends on the fence length and number of lines. The energiser costs extra.
What is included in these rates?
Standard fence hardware and installation labour are included. However, the energiser, its installation and accessories are quoted separately.
Does a longer fence cost less?
The price per metre may be lower for a longer run. Even so, the overall cost usually rises because the job needs more materials and labour.
How do I compare quotes from different installers?
Check the fence type, length, line count and materials first. Then compare the energiser model, accessories, site work, VAT and documentation. A lower headline price may cover less work.
Will the fence work during a power outage?
A suitable backup battery may keep the fence running. Runtime depends on the battery’s condition and the energiser model. Ask about the expected backup time for your system.
Does an electric fence use much electricity?
Power use depends on the energiser and how it operates. Check the chosen model’s input specifications for a useful estimate.
Is electric fencing an effective security measure?
It can help deter intruders and monitor the boundary. However, each property has different security needs. Cameras, alarms and secure access points can support the overall design.
Can electric fencing be used for animal control?
Yes. The fence layout and energiser must suit the animals and the site. Ask for advice on your specific needs.
Can I supply my own materials?
Yes, we offer installation of customer-supplied kits. Before agreeing on a labour quote, we need to check that the kit is complete and suitable.
Is an energiser unit the same as an installed kit?
No. A unit-only price covers the energiser itself. By comparison, the installed kit described above also includes specified protection, earth spikes, a siren and installation labour.
